The World Wide Web was established as a neutral space that would allow diverse information and viewpoints to be shared easily. As the recent Facebook scandal has shown, however, the web is being weaponised by organisations buying and selling individuals’ personal data to push certain agendas.

Dr Markus Luczak-Roesch (School of Information Management) and Dr Kathleen Kuehn (School of English, Film, Theatre, and Media Studies) discuss the Facebook–Cambridge Analytica scandal and consider what we can do in the future to navigate this brave new media world.
