Kate Keith-Fitzgerald

Kate Keith-Fitzgerald is one of the University’s alumni volunteers in Boston USA. She took some time to answer questions about her time studying in Wellington.

Where are you living and what are you doing?

I'm living in Boston working as a reference librarian at a public library.

What’s the current situation with COVID-19 in Boston?

The library I'm working at closed down at the beginning of March and isn't expected to open again until May. Boston is quiet which is slightly strange. There's a park behind my building where I go on my daily walks and often pass other people out and about.

What did you study and why did you choose your degree?

I studied Classics with a focus on the Greek poet Pindar. I've always been interested in history, and in Classics I could study art, language, and culture all at the same time. As an undergrad, I spent a semester in Athens which was wonderful.

What was Wellington like when you were studying?

Really lovely, I was studying when Te Papa did the Lord of the Rings' exhibit and the Embassy Theatre showed the movies again. That was a lot of fun. I spent so much time at Te Papa and on the waterfront.
